Where does it come from?
We celebrate Pentecost on the 50th day after Easter. It's the third biggest festivity after Christmas and Easter. The Christian Church celebrates this day as its founding day. According to the Acts of the Apostles, the Disciples of Christ received the order to go out into the countries, and to preach the Gospel, upon the Resurrection of Christ, with the confinement of the Holy Spirit, on the seventh Sunday.
In Germany we celebrate Pentecost on Sunday and Monday. Those are also bank holidays.

Adequate to the season the Pentecost Rose blossoms now. This has no historical background according to the festivity, but the flower blooms just then in wonderful colors of light 'til deep pink. Even our ancestors decorated fences, wells and gardens with these roses for Pentecost.
