Star Trek Into Darkness review

Review of Star Trek Into Darkness:

We went to the German pre-premiere on May 8th, 2013. I know it's been a very long time that I have posted anything on my blog, but here I go now...

Spoken from my movie companion's point of view... it was a 'thin' story. There wasn't nearly enough 3D visual effects, only at the beginning and at the end. And he said the Enterprise was too modern. Other than that he liked the movie.

Me, as a sworn in Trekkie for decades, I have another point of view. For the younger generation this has to be a movie magnet, a blockbuster. I gotta agree that it's a fine science fiction piece of art by J.J. Abrams, but... it simply isn't a Gene Roddenberry Star Trek movie. Period.
I liked all the action, all the visual effects, and especially all the dialogues. It contains a lot of verbal slapstick. For the young ones it must be a 5 star movie. For action and sci fi lovers it's a 4 star movie. For a Trekkie it only reaches 3, maybe 3.5 stars.

Here's why...
Mainly, it just can't be romance. And most definitely no kissing or love affair between Spock and anybody, except maybe another Vulcan during Pon Farr. It's nice to look at, but ya know?
Secondly, the German voice of Chekov uses a terrible accent, it's too fake, I just pray the original voice is better.
Thirdly, there wasn't nearly enough tech talk. And the technology used just isn't right. They use something way past Voyager, but it plays during the times of the very first Enterprise ship! There is no such thing as a communicator that can receive texts. No tablet screen in the air can be used to show sketches of the torpedos.
And one last thing... there was way too much crying in this movie. Action isn't tears. Science Fiction isn't tears. And for sure Star Trek isn't tears. That easy it is.
One simply can tell that it's supposed to become a blockbuster for the young generation, much more than the twelth movie of the Star Trek universe.

Khan (Cumberbatch), I like way better than Q. But somehow the imagination of an Iron Man/Spiderman/Superman blend, who is invulnerable... is very much action/sci fi, and so poorly treklike.

I'm happy it is a pulsating piece of movie, which makes my action/sci fi heart beat faster, but as a Trekkie, I'm a tad bit disappointed. I hope they'll come up with something new now, maybe with another producer, and no other sequel of these two.

If you ask me, I'll tell you that it was a 'good' movie, which makes you think of two thumbs up, but I stick to my 3.5 stars, one thumb up theory. Better than no Star Trek movie at all...

It is worth going to the movies, great entertainment, no waste of money, so go ahead, watch it.

Another disappointing fact was the various commercials for alcohol in advance, the handed out alcohol freebies at the entrance, and that they put in a wrong roll of film, which forced us to wait 45 minutes on the movie. We weren't home before midnight. AND the theater wasn't nearly full, which was odd for a pre-premiere with a holiday the very next day!

My report for you. Like it or not, it's my opinion.
