2008 July - MoMouse

What's new with me?
For all those of you who didn't know...
Last Thanksgiving I was asked by my best friend's niece, if I would volunteer at kindergarten to teach English! And: I agreed. I wanted to do it for free, but they refused. So I get all my material paid, and a little tip aside every month.

I started 'teaching' in February.
I have 12 children, all being 5 years old. It's two groups of them.
Soon we'll have Whitsun. During those holidays (and again I was talked into it) I'll have an elementary school project at day care center. It's 2nd till 5th graders (Germans). Usually one starts learning English here in 4th grade... I'll teach them for 2 consecutive days, one group in the morning, the other one in the afternoon.

After those holidays I'll continue with my once a week, one school period (45 minutes) with the preschoolers, and somehow I'll start with the school kids on a once-a-week regular basis as well.
Can you imagine being allowed doing something you always wanted to do, something you have no explicit education for, something that much fun, that you wouldn't want to take money for it?
It was totally out of the blue for me! Remember, good old (*lol* 42 years young) Regina is retired since 2 years in the meantime, staying at home ever since, not allowed to work more than 3 hours a day, and now something like that happens to me! I am so excited!
Each week means busy preparations for the stuff I want them to learn on Fridays. Then I can't sleep in anymore, I gotta be there in time EARLY IN THE MORNING *yawn* And they call me 'the woman with the mouse' in the meantime... *lol*
Because I work together with MoMouse (go have a look at the giant mouse in my pics for yourself) who unfortunately just speaks and understands English!
I own several teaching licenses now, from an American website, and a German website, also. They basically lead me through all the lessons, and I spice them up with things we brought home with us from the States. And let me tell you that's plenty!
So far the kids don't seem to be bored, they actually learned a lot and have fun doing so! They'll be bored to death once they enter school... haha.
But let me tell you: they sure are a handful *sigh* I forgot really HOW busy 5-year-olds can keep you!
I love what I'm doing, and I hope you can say the same about your own profession, your occupation, your job, or with whatever you do to make it through the day, or to earn a living as well!
Never quit giving, bringing fun and joy into other peoples lifes, and don't you stop enjoying life, having fun yourself, no matter what age, or how ill you are! Promise me that, okay?
I'm sure I'll hear from you all soon!
Wish me success with what I do, and many thanks for your attention, as always.

Regina
